My third night of sleep was I best yet. I had planned on going 5 days but called it quits at the end of today. Here are the details for my day 4. We will talk a bit about stress as well and how that impacts your bodies function.
Body Detoxification Routine Day 4
I got up at 4 am. Mixed 2 teaspoons of activated charcoal in a tall glass of water and started drinking it. Did my coffee enema prep. During the prep, I did my stretching routine and got in a Wim Hof breathing session. Managed 56 pushups this time. The video below shows exactly how I do my Wim Hof routine. Knocked out the enema. This morning I just went for a walk instead of my usual 5 km run/walk. When I came back from the walk I did a high-intensity interval training workout on a bicycle. Made my fatty coffee and drank it. Took a shower and went to work.
It is amazing how productive you can be when you are not eating or concerned about your next meal. Sipped on bone broth and tea throughout the day. Checked my numbers and my ketones went up to 3.6 and my glucose went down to 4.8. My GKI came out to 1.33. All four days I managed to keep my GKI in the ideal range between 1 and 3. Happy with my numbers I decided to break my fasting-mimicking diet at 4 pm.
Ending the body detox protocol
I cooked some Brussel sprouts with balsamic vinegar. Boy, was it good!!! After that, I drank my probiotic. Now one reason I like fasting-mimicking diet is that I can pretty much resume eating immediately. If I did a water fast only then I would need one day of recovery for every 3 days of fasting. My next snack was lobster with butter and paprika. I also made some homemade cornbread out of almond flour. Yes, food tastes so amazing when you first break your fast.
Took a break from eating for about an hour and a half then had a whole bowl of chili that I made in my instant pot. Finished the meal off with homemade pound cake made from almond and coconut flour topped with fresh blueberries and homemade whipping cream. I guess I should mention I had a couple of glasses of cabernet with all this. All in all a very satisfying end to my body detoxification protocol.
Total Body Detox and Stress
Toxins are not only chemicals. Stress is a toxin to your body. Our bodies were designed to see the danger, such as a lion, ramp up and get away, and then completely relax. In today’s world of us going and going nonstop we never get the opportunity to let our body relax and go back to baseline. Too much stress can even cause cancer. If you are trying to lose weight you will be unsuccessful if you cannot control your stress. Below are several methods I use for stress control.
Breathing for stress control
You will notice that I did Wim Hof breathing on several of the mornings. Wim Hof has learned how to control his autonomic nervous system which previously was thought impossible. He even was able to train other people to do this. Here is a good article on the subject of Wim Hof.
Another method I like to use is 5-5-10-5. What you do here is breathe in for 5 seconds, hold your breath for 5 seconds, breathe out for 10 seconds, hold your breath for 5 seconds, repeat. If you can not start with 5 seconds start with 3. The simple act of doing this forces you to follow your breath which takes your mind off anything else. I like to do this when I am out for my daily walks. They are a lot of other breathing techniques but I like this one for its simplicity. Another thing I do is I make a conscious effort to only breathe through my nose, not my mouth.
Exercise for stress control
I think everyone knows that exercise is great for stress control. The body produces something called endorphins which makes you feel good and exercise increases that production. You will notice despite not eating I still managed to get some form of exercise in on a daily basis. I am keto adapted so that made it easy. If you are the typical carb burner this might be a tough thing to do during this detox protocol.
Fasting for stress control
Fasting is completely amazing. Most people will start producing ketones after their third day of fasting. Ketones are superfoods for the brain. Actually, the heart and brain prefer ketones as fuel. You will notice when you get into ketosis that you become calmer. Also, you will notice that you have more mental clarity. I am typically in ketosis 80-90 percent of the time. You can see from my numbers that I was in ketosis from day one. That is what makes this detox protocol so easy for me. If you are on the standard America diet you should try to clean up your diet prior to doing any type of detox.
Day after a detoxifying protocol
The next day I still got up at 4 am. Little groggy from drinking a whole bottle of wine so I did a coffee enema. Boy, that fixed me. Did my normal stretching and at 6 am went out for a run/walk. That run/ walk lasted 2 hours and 26 minutes. All I took with me was 2 small water bottles, NO FOOD. That was 75 percent running and 25 percent walking. At 4 pm just before I was going to eat my first meal of the day I thought I would check out my numbers. My glucose was 3.8(69 in American units) and my ketones were 4.8. My GKI was 0.79. These numbers were even better than while I was doing the detox protocol. Part of the reason for this was the run/walk without food this am. Folks, it really pays to teach your body how to do this. Cancer can never get a foothold in you if you do a detox once a quarter. By the way, when you are in ketosis you recover quicker.
