I originally learned about coffee enemas from my cancer patients. When I researched this I was surprised to see that these have been around for centuries. Below, are some important facts about this cheap and easy way to help your body detoxify.
8 Important facts about Coffee Enemas
1. Coffee enemas stimulate the liver to increase its detoxification of the blood. It does this by increasing glutathione production up to 600%. This decreases the toxic load on the liver. Coffee enemas are a required component of the Gerson Therapy’s treatment system used for cancer.
2. The following people should not do coffee enemas
a. Currently undergoing chemotherapy
b. Renal, cardiac or respiratory failure
c. Bleeding and/or ulceration in the colon tract
d. Ulcerative Colitis
e. Crohn’s disease
f. Ileostomy (no colon)
g. Hypertension and/or tachycardia
h. Pregnant women
i. Acute or ongoing chronic diarrhea until investigated by a physician
j. First 6-8 weeks post-surgery
3. The coffee solution is held in the colon. The blood vessels in the lower part of the descending colon and rectum carry the solution to the liver. The direct transport of the compounds from the coffee to the liver is what makes this so effective.
4. The coffee enema causes some stimulation of the liver to produce bile, but it’s the potent compounds including caffeine, theobromine and theophylline that dilate blood vessels, bile ducts and relax smooth muscles, increasing the flow of bile. To make this even more effective you can add 5 drops of food grade tangerine essential oil to your solution.
5. Electrolytes are lost during evacuation. To counter this we add one teaspoon of Himalayan salt to our solution.
6. It is a myth that the body does becomes dependent on coffee enemas to have a bowel movement.
7. Green coffee is appropriate for use. Below you can see the brand we use that we get from Amazon. Dark roasts are not appropriate because the potent compounds have been roasted out. Coffee must be organic and we recommend fair-trade, sustainable coffee.
8. Coffee enemas are not a new thing. Coffee enemas have appeared in medical writings dating back to ancient Egypt. They made a comeback when German nurses during WW1 discovered by accident that coffee enemas pre-surgery helped relieve some of the pain of the soldiers.
Procedure for Coffee enema
There are obviously many ways to do a coffee enema. What I will talk to you about is how I do it fast and efficiently. Done first thing in the morning which is a good time because your body is naturally inclined to have a bowel movement early in the day. To start with , get yourself a good enema kit. This is the one I use and recommend.
Take 3 cups of distilled water and bring it to a boil. Add 3 tablespoons of enema coffee and one teaspoon of Himalayan salt. Let this mixture boil for 5 minutes. While this is going on I usually drink a glass of water with one tablespoon of Braggs apple cider vinegar. After the 5 minutes turn off the stove and let the coffee cool for 15 minutes. I then add another 3 cups of cool distilled water to the mixture and use a strainer and strain the coffee into the enema bucket. Make sure the solution is just warm and not hot. Then go down to your bathroom and perform the enema. Plenty of good YouTube on how to do this. I personally lay on my left side, insert the tube and let the liquid run in for about 30 seconds at a time. Every 2 minutes I will add a little bit more liquid. Hold it in for 10-20 minutes if possible. Get rid of that liquid and repeat the procedure one more time. You will have to play around with this to find what works for you. Make sure you clean everything after every use. I flush my tubing with hydrogen peroxide after every couple of uses. I like to listen to meditation music and something similar while I am holding the enema in. I find it very calming.
