WHY DETOXIFY YOUR BODY
In the spring many of us are motivated to do ‘spring cleaning’ in our homes. Why would you clean your home but not your body? A body that has been detoxified will run more efficiently and be more resilient against disease.
If you have a conventional physician they will probably not acknowledge toxicity as an important health issue. It is becoming impossible to ignore the symptoms of toxicity. Hormones out of whack, obesity, mental fog, fatigue, lack of energy, metabolic syndrome, trouble sleeping are all symptoms of a toxic body. How can you ignore the rising rates of cancer over the past two decades? Did you know 1600 people in the US died today of cancer? Cancer is only 5-10 percent genetics. Cancer is mostly due to the toxins in our environment that overwhelm our body. When I refer to toxins I am talking about chemicals, stress, lack of sleep, lack of social connectedness, and diet.
Environmental toxins cause endocrine disruption. Endocrine Society said chemicals causing endocrine disruption are the cause of our epidemics of diabetes and obesity. You could have problems that occur as an adult that was due to exposure of chemicals when you were a fetus. The Environmental Working Group(EWG) ten years ago did a study on umbilical cord blood and found 287 chemicals in the blood. The EWG was not even capable of testing for as many chemicals as it can currently. Yes, it is that scary.
What is the Organ of Detox
Most people realize that the liver performs detox. What they do not realize is that when it is overwhelmed with toxins it functions at a reduced capacity. This means it is not producing the antioxidants that prevent cancer or get rid of hormone-disrupting toxins that are fat-soluble. Because it cannot break down hormones like insulin efficiently insulin levels begin to build in the body causing metabolic syndrome. The occurs with estrogen giving women estrogen dominance which is not good. If the liver is busy detoxifying alcohol once again its efficiency is reduced. Fat-soluble toxins accumulate in fat and they generate more fat. People that have difficulty losing weight despite exercise and diet have fat-soluble toxins that the body cannot easily release.
Ways to Support Detox
- Limit Alcohol. A woman drinking one glass of wine a day has a 10 fold increase in the risk of breast cancer.
- Focus on Sleep. Get 8 hours of restful sleep.
- Drink More Water. Filter your water as well.
- Reduce Your Intake of Sugar and Processed Foods. If it comes in a box or you do not recognize an ingredient…DON’T
- Eat Antioxidant-Rich Foods. Yes, veggies and fruits.
- Eat Foods High in Prebiotics.
- Decrease Your Table Salt Intake. Himalayan salt, Celtic Sea salt, and Redman’s salt are all OK.
- Move more.
What I do for Detox
The rest of this post is about what I did on the first day of a multiple-day detox. Ideally, I like to do one of these once a quarter, but I missed last quarter. I will elaborate more on coming posts why I do what I do. This post is already too long so you will just get a summary of Day 1 of my detox
- Up at 5 am. Mixed up water and activated charcoal and drank a glass
- Started prepping my coffee enema.
- While the coffee enema was being made I did a 10-minute stretch and a 25-minute jog at a fat-burning pace(heart rate 125 or less. If I exceeded 125 I walked until my heart rate dropped below 100). The way you calculate your max heart rate to stay in fat-burning mode is to subtract your age from 180.
- Coffee enema which took 30 minutes.
- Made myself a cowboy coffee. The video below has the recipe. I used collagen powder instead of egg this morning.
- Did a bit of work with some clients.
- Did an infrared sauna session followed by a massage. You can read about the wellness pod here.
- Some more work while sipping on diluted bone broth with salt, pepper, and turmeric.
- More work while sipping on ginger turmeric tea.
- I drank a glass of water with a probiotic mixture.
- Around 530pm I ate an avocado.
- At 6 I drank another cup of tea. I mixed a teaspoon of ghee with this and used stevia as a sweetener.
- One more glass of tea and in bed by 8 pm. Read on my kindle till I fell asleep.
